Power Equivalence

this is a bit of a thorny issue as there's plenty of misinformation out there. Don't simply look at Lumens figures as these can be misleading when trying to compare light equivalence. You need to consider the beam angles and then the relative lux levels for different lamps measured in the same way. To help you choose we have measured all our lamps and then compared them with halogen lamps to provide you with an honest "equivalence" rating.

See how many of our competitors do this! It may mean that on the face of it our lamps don't perform as well, but we believe in being open and honest about our products. We've seen companies claiming that 12v lamps with a 150 lumen output can replace a 50w halogen! Nonsense - not even close!		Power Equivalence
LED drivers

12v LED lamps are extremely reliable BUT this can only be guaranteed if they are used with the correct electrical supply. The problem is that high power 12v LED lamps expect a constant current supply - a standard transformer which might be suitable for use with Halogen lamps does not always provide this - with halogen lamps it's not an issue BUT 12v LED's can be affected in that their life can be reduced UNLESS the internal circuitry of the lamp is designed to smooth out the voltage fluctuations.

If a 12v LED is capable of running with a standard halogen transformer then we will advise you, but otherwise we would always advise that you purchase an LED Driver with your lamp.
